Guidelines for the Boiberik Online Discussion Group
The Boiberik online discussion group aims to sustain and strengthen the Boiberik community, enabling Boiberikaner of all generations to share memories and ideas with one another. All Boiberikaner are welcome (and encouraged!) to join.
The discussion group is intended for discussion of topics and issues related to the Boiberik community. Of course, different people have different interpretations of what it means for a topic to be "related to the Boiberik community." We encourage all members of the group to observe the following guidelines:
Please make sure to include your name (and, ideally, your Boiberik years) in all messages you send to the group.
When sending a message to the group, please give some thought as to whether it will be of interest to a reasonable number of people in the group.
When receiving a message from the group...If you're not interested in the message, simply delete it. If you feel the message is inappropriate for the group, please let the Webmaster know (mres@media.mit.edu). Please do not complain to the whole group unless you feel there have been repeated problems that warrant a discussion by the whole group.
In general, it is not appropriate to forward "mass mailings" (written by "outsiders") to the group. If you feel a "mass mailing" is especially relevant and important for the group, please include some of your own commentary, saying why you think it is relevant and important for the group.
In general, it is not appropriate to send "commercial" messages to the group (unless it is for a product/service created by a Boiberikaner or of special interest to Boiberikaner).
Please do not include any attachments with your messages, since many people are reluctant to open attachments on mailing lists (out of fear of viruses).
If someone sends a message to you privately, please do not forward it to the whole group unless you have permission from the sender.
When a message appears on this discussion group, please do not forward it to anyone who is not part of this group, unless you have permission from the sender.
Please do not publicize the address of this group, since we do not want "outsiders" to start sending messages to this group.
If you want to be added to (or removed from) the discussion group, please send a message to boiberik-request@media.mit.edu
Above all, please be sensitive and tolerant of the fact that different people have different views on what is appropriate for this discussion group.
